Hollywood Star Lanes

It was the Dude, Walter, and Donny's bowling alley of choice.

Hollywood Star Lanes was a 32-lane bowling alley located at 5227 Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles, California.

The brothers Joel and Ethan Coen used both the exterior and interior of the bowling alley extensively for scenes in their intricately layered neo-noir comedy The Big Lebowski.

It opened in 1960 and had been a place of community and entertainment for 42 years until it closed its doors permanently in August of 2002.

The closure of the famous bowling alley was somewhat controversial at the time. The owner evidently agreed to sell the property to LAUSD for a new school site, a statement the owner denied and later backed out of the agreement. The bowling alley was later ordered closed after a judge ruled in favor of LAUSD.

The bowling alley no longer exists, having been demolished in 2003. Today, Kingsley Elementary School stands on the old spot of Hollywood Star Lanes.
